Brightening up a Rainy Day...

Here is my version of the Plus Quilt. This quilt will brighten up any dull, grey day - as it is here today in the Lower Mainland of BC. I wanted to spend some time playing with bright, fun colours and this is the quilt that resulted. The fabric in this quilt is mostly Oz by Sanae for Moda, with some extras thrown in to round out the numbers.

The backing, a gentle tone of lime green - another vintage linen. My absolute favourite way to back a quilt - soft and cozy and ready for cuddling in.

I quilted straight lines on either side of the seams. I do so love this neat and organized way of quilting - it makes my brain happy. It lends itself to my penchant for neat and tidy. This green variegated thread was perfect - blending in well with the bright colours.

Now all it needs is the binding. I am going to use this black floral from the Oz line. The dark print will frame it nicely. I like to machine bind - though I have not come up with a sure-fire favourite method yet. I have tried a few and seem to change something each time.

What is your favourite way of binding? Do you have a method that works for you every time. That is my goal - I want to find a tried and true method of binding, that will give me the same results each quilt. I like to know what I am getting into!

  1. I adore your version of the plus quilt! Pinning.

As for binding, I'll do anything depends on what I want it to look like. I'm between hand turned and machined rounded corners. I love the hand turned most. If it doesn't matter too much I'll machined it on with rounded corners.

  2. My favorite method of binding is machining it to the front, and hand tacking it to the back. Oddly, I really love hand tacking binding to the back of a quilt for some reason. The tutorial I found most helpful is the one at Crazy Mom Quilts.

I love your Plus Quilt! The colors are wonderful. Excellent work. I'm about to start on a plus quilt myself, and seeing everyone else's makes me so excited to start!

I like to attach the binding to the front by machine and hand stitch it to the back.

  4. The quilt is gorgeous. I am a sucker for bright colours! As for the binding I always machine sew the front and hand sew the back. Would love to Machine sew the whole lot but am always afraid i would stuff it up! I'm sure there is a tutorial out there somewher for the perfect way to do it though.
