Happy Little Nine Patch

Hello all! Happy New year! Hope you are all off to a wonderful start to 2015. I have a new quilt to share...

This one is off to The Night of Hope to raise money for Breast Cancer research in their silent auction. They have a secondary fundraising event called 'Harness the Hope' held at a local horse race venue, my nine patch will be auctioned there.

I enjoyed the process of digging through my scraps to make these little nine patches - it was like a trip down memory lane.

Am still enthralled with these strawberries...I wonder how many more quilts I can sneak them into. (Note to self - must buy more!)

Finished it off with a stripy Denyse Schmidt print (and a flannel on the back - super cozy!)...

And a label of course! Nothing leaves the sewing room without one of these babies...

Have I ever told you that I glue my binding? And then I machine sew it on - works like a charm. It's a great trick - have you tried it?!

Take care all! Linking up with 'Finish it up Friday' at Crazy Mom Quilts.

Hello Hadley!

Fell in love with Hadley. Badly.

I also have been in love with the Buzz Saw block lately. Thought I would add a little text print (some Chicopee and other friends may have demanded their way in there too...), cut right in and make me a new quilt. Free - style, from the notes I made in my head when I researched this block, like 2 months ago.

Funny though, I kept thinking to myself while chopping fabric and moving colours around on my wall - 'These Buzz Saws sure look pineapple-ish.Who named this block anyways??!!'.

Jokes on me - if you want to make a Buzz Saw, you really should read the directions again before you begin and not just wing it...or you end up with pineapples.

Good thing I sure do fancy these pineapples.

Forging ahead and adding lime green - cause lime green goes with everything these days.

Happy weekend all!!!

Another One Bites the Dust

And by 'bites the dust', I mean is finished! Yay me! Doesn't a finish just feel oh-so-good.

We quilters are such a passionate bunch, aren't we?!!! I swear I love every single finished quilt and want to snuggle and hug it for awhile before I give it away (if and when I can part with them haha, I am getting better with this!). I feel like it's because we spend such an amount of TIME with each quilty creation that they really do become a part of you - and that builds the love. Almost like an appreciation of where it was (piles o fabric and a vision) to what it became (a beautiful, useable quilt).

I had such fun quilting this one. I really experimented a lot with my lines - more vs. less space between and also, when the mood struck, veering off into different directions and creating new diagonals. It was very freeing - much different than my usual Type A straight lines 'all the same width apart' kind of deal.

Special message on the back for the recipient of this quilt...
...a reminder each time she snuggles into it that she rocks, ain't it great to have friends like that?!!!

Hope you all had a fabulous week - and some time to sew! Take care all. Linking up with 'Finish it up Friday' at Crazy Mom Quilts.

Back Into the Sew-ing of Things...

Hey all...happy summer days to you! I have had some sewing time this past week and it has been GRRRREAT (I just had this visual of Tony the Tiger...80's child anyone?!)!!! I am sewing a quilt for a dear friend who has moved away. I just love her to bits and want to show it, ya know? A quilt is just so good for that.

I decided on a Wonky Star quilt, as I find them to be a very satisfying sew. I haven't made one yet that I wasn't in love with, so the likelihood of being pleased with my finish is high. This was important to me right now because I finished a top in June that I am only so-so on and that is such a BUMMER.

I have had fun pulling and mixing some of my fave fabrics. I really let this quilt speak to me as I have added colours and fabrics and played with the low-vol background. Hopefully tomorrow will find me some more sewing time - I am itching to see this one complete!

Hope you are all having some fabulous summertime fun and enjoying every moment!

Big Girl Quilt

Hello friends! How have you been?!!! I have a quilt to share - this one was made especially for my niece, who turned 3 in April. I thought it was time to replace her baby quilt with a BIG girl quilt.

I fell in love with the fabric line 'Hello Petal' by Aneela Hooey for Moda and knew it would be a perfect fit for the 'Pow Wow' pattern. I then added in a few navy blues to make the background of the blocks scrappy and voila...

This is only the second time I have made a quilt with those pointy triangle tips (the first time was a bomb...) and I must confess those points are tricky for me!

Simple diagonal stitching was all it needed, I thought about going in both directions but it seemed like it would be too busy, especially with the dark navy thread.

A little splash of blue in the binding, just for fun!

And for the back - big blue medallions - soooo pretty! I am completely taken with this for the finish.

Happy weekend all! It is sunny and bright here, hope you have something fun to enjoy this weekend, wherever you may be.

Night of Hope

Each year my mom volunteers for an event held locally called The Night of Hope. This event is a gala evening, with guest speakers, live auction and silent auction - all proceeds going to research for a cure for Breast Cancer. My mom lost her youngest sister to breast cancer, so the event has much meaning and hope for our family. This year, I decided to make a toddler size quilt with matching doll quilt to donate to the event.

This particular log cabin block was a first for me -  and right up my alley. I love the repetitive sew, iron, trim, sew, iron, trim vibe that you get into. I find it very relaxing and satisfying. It was also a nice change to not have to think about seam matching - a nice switch from the usual.

I am very pleased to report that these quilts sold in the silent auction and are now happily in their new home. Hopefully being snuggled by a little and her dolly.

I am enjoying the sunshine here in BC. Hope you all are having a fabulous start to your week!

For the Hubs

I made quilt. I know?! Surprise, right. This one is for the hubs, he deserved one. Considering that he has had my back on this quilting gig since day one.

He actually bought the machine - the one that makes the quilts - as a present pour moi. So really, he is the starter of the madness. And trust - it is such fabric madness over here.

So, I sewed up this 'crazy fabric' quilt as a way of saying thanks - thanks, honey, for helping me to find my creative self. I love this hobby.

This quilt now resides on our couch - I may or may not have had a nap under it the other day. No pictures were taken, so really no one has any proof that I was snoozing instead of doing chores.

Happy weekend all. This one is much needed around here! It is spring break starting Monday - so I look forward to some extra time spent with my little.
