If this is your first time visiting my blog, welcome! It's good to have you here, on my stop of the 'Nancy Drew is a Clue' Blog Hop hosted by Carol at 'Just Let me Quilt'. Be sure to visit over there and try to solve the mystery clues to win great prizes. Meanwhile, I have been having such a great old time, reacquainting myself with these...
Anyone else keep their Nancy Drew book collection??!! I still have mine and when I pulled them off the bookshelf recently to have a look at, my son became very interested. He instantly decided that he would like me to read one to him. Presently he is 7 years old, so we'll see how that goes - but I am certainly willing to give it a try. He has chosen 'Mystery of the Brass Bound Trunk' which is interesting, as this book is showcased in the fabrics.
I knew when I recieved my Nancy Drew fabric that I wanted to make 2 particular items. First up - a mini quilt - as I have been obsessed lately with filling up my sewing room wall with teeny tiny quilts. I find that I am drawn to the Nancy Drew silhouette, so I decided to start with a sketch. I sketched out my silhouette (I looked at silhouette pics on the internet for inspiration) and then traced my sketch onto tracing paper to make a pattern...
I used my self-made pattern to produce this mini - she is very tiny, measuring at 8.25 x 7 inches.
Next up was a purse - or if you will - a BOOK BAG, calling it this makes me feel as though it was meant to be made with this fabric - ha! I have made this patchwork 'Schlep Bag' before numerous times and simply modified the free pattern to use 5 inch squares (and added a cross-body strap rather than handles). I really wanted it to be the right size for a young girl to wear and pop a few books in at the library (Nancy Drew OF COURSE!).
It was nearly impossible to choose which fabrics to use because, lets face it, I love them all - but in the end I went with red on the outside and patchwork blue on the inside. I tried to showcase my favourite prints, the faces and the books, by using them at the top of the bag and on the strap.
If you would like a chance to play with these fabrics too, all you have to do is:
1. Leave me a comment telling me what your most favourite Nancy Drew memory is or what you might like to make with the charm pack.
2. Followers get 2 chances - let me know you are a follower in a second comment. New followers welcome of course!
3. Cross your fingers!
Good luck all! Thanks for visiting my stop on the 'Nancy Drew is a Clue' Blog Hop.

Love your projects! I am on a mug rug kick, so would probably make a few if I win. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI follow you GFC! Thank you for the second chance.
ReplyDeleteLove your little mini! Your bag is great too!
ReplyDeleteLove your projects. That little mini Nancy is so cute. I need to make a mug rug for use when reading Nancy Drew.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading Nancy Drew growing up. I used to borrow the Hardy Boys from my cousin Kenny next door. He said, "you can't read those, they're for boys!" Well, the laughs on him, isn't it, since they were cranked out by the same authors!
ReplyDeleteI did not know Nancy Drew :( maybe it was not translated, but I would have loved it!
ReplyDeleteI am a GFC follower!
ReplyDeleteYour project with Nancy Drew are lovely. And as a Swede I haven´t heard about Nancy Drew until this blog hop.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and for a great give away
Oh my, your mini is sweet and your bag is lovely! Thanks for sharing...Judith, Texas
ReplyDeleteWhat cute projects! Thanks for sharing and the chance to win, I have a book lover in the family, so I think I would make a cushion for him to snuggle up with when reading!
ReplyDeleteVery creative of you. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteGreat detective work on finding the perfect D rings! :) I should snoop a bit in the closet and see what sewing 'notions' I have hiding. Great idea and a good use of upcycling! My favorite memory of Nancy Drew was when a box of hand-me-downs would arrive from my cousins and tucked inside would be 'new' Nancy Drew books!
ReplyDeleteI can remember rushing to the library for the next Nancy Drew book. The D ring on your book bag looks great!
ReplyDeleteLove your mini quilt and bag, very nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI know I read the books but I have no memory of it. I think that comes with age sometimes. lol
ReplyDeleteYour projects are great! Thanks for sharing!
I just remember always wanting to be like her. I wrote a story once where I solved a mystery with the help of my dophins which lived in a swimming pool in my basement (we didn't even have a true basement at the time). It's a story that still makes me smile. She's who really got me reading as a kid--which has me wondering if I could entice my 7 year old boy too. I think I must have gotten all my books at the library because I don't have any of my own. I need to change that!
ReplyDeletePS Your projects are wonderful! I especially love your bag.
DeleteYes I did read the Nancy Drew books not all and ten when my daughter discovered them we read them again...Your projects are wonderful and I love the bag and mini quilt.....I am a new follower. Take care have a great day.
ReplyDeleteLove your mini and the bag! It's fun to revisit Nancy Drew! Thanks for sharing and thanks for the givaway!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory of Nancy Drew is the books. I read as many as I could get my hands on. Love all the movies and shows that have been out. I am not sure that this generation reads her much but I hope so. Thanks for having a give away.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely make a library/book bag! Thanks for the lovely giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI read so many of the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books as a kid, and I also watched the TV series. I volunteer in the school library where my kids attend and they have many of the books as well.
ReplyDeleteLove your mini quilt and your bag is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI read as many Nancy Drew books as I could get my hands on probably in junior high. I was disappointed when I had read all the library had. Great job on your projects.
ReplyDeletegreat projects- love the bag. I read the whole series of ND books as a kid and remember it quite fondly!
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed reading Nancy Drew as a child. thanks for the giveaway. Great project.
ReplyDeleteI read all the Nancy Drew books - some, a second time! Nice project and give away.
ReplyDeleteWonderful project.I `ve read any of these books so I follow the hop to know more about them.
ReplyDeleteOh, that tote bag is awesome! Yes, I've saved my old books, and my favorite Nancy Drew memory is when my daughter asked to read them. Some of the words are old fashioned or were too hard for her, so I'd lay down and read along with her. Funny to think of the words we don't use anymore!
ReplyDeleteI read every Nancy Drew when I was growing up- wanted to be just like her (detective) and was in law enforcement for over ten years!
ReplyDeleteAm a new follower and love how you made the bag (forgot to mention that in my earlier comment!0
ReplyDeleteLove your projects. Never tried the d rings. I'll add that to my list. Thanks for sharing them with us.
ReplyDeleteThat silhouette is just so cool! Your bag will look so fun filled with books...love it. Thanks for hopping with us! :O)
ReplyDeleteWhile in elementary school. I think it was 2nd or 3rd grade. I had a teacher and every day she would read to us for 30 minutes . And she read Nancy drew books to us. And anytime we had freetime or on rainy days when we coulnd't go out to play. She would read to us then as well.. It was so great. To feel like we were apart of Nancys adventures. It is one thing tha tinspired my love of reading. I could go places and see and do things that I knew I would never really get a chance to do.

I am new to your blog and am now a new follower as well. conn_and_vans_mom(at)yahoo(dot)com
ReplyDeleteReading Nancy Drew in my Grandma's flower garden in Edmonton each summer. I always imagined being right in the thick of things with Nancy, Bess and George.
ReplyDeleteYour tote is fabulous, thank you for sharing!
Great bag! Love the D ring Idea. My favorite Nancy Drew memory is more about how I had the chance to read all of them. We lived way out in the country the closest Library was about 45 minutes away on back country roads. Weekly though my mother cleaned house for a lady, and down the road from her was a lady my mother went to college with. My mother's college friend had an extensive library and every Nancy Drew Book written. So while my mother cleaned house, I would go visit the college friend and get to sit in her window seat and read all day long, and borrow a book each visit. To say the least I read each Nancy Drew mystery at least twice.
ReplyDeleteI like what I spy at Hilltop House (sounds like something out of a ND book) so I'm now following.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance :)
What a wonderful bag! Nice that there's a free pattern link attached too ;-)
ReplyDeleteoohhh and I'm a follower now too! thanks!!
ReplyDeleteYour projects are just lovely. I think the rings were a great idea to make it adjustable.
ReplyDeleteNancy Drew reminds me of summer days as a girl with a bike and a basket on the front of it - filled with Nancy Drew mystery books.
I remember snuggling up with a good Nancy Drew book and a cup of hot chocolate on snow days when I was a kid. It was the best way to spend an afternoon off school. I think if I got the charm pack, I would like to make some new cushions to add to that window seat, so that my niece can use those when she gets old enough to read Nancy Drew books on it.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I am a new follower.
ReplyDeleteThe schelp bag is perfect for this line. I actually had this pattern on my design board of possible patterns for this blog hop at one time. You did such a great job with it. I love the strap!! The mini is sew cute. Thanks for sharing ... :) Pat
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower so I can follow the thread trail back ... :) Pat
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a young girl, I did read all of the Nancy Drew books. It is one of the series that started my love of reading.
ReplyDeleteMy great neice is a huge Nancy Drew fan. She is also really into skirts. I can see a skirt of this fabric for her.
ReplyDeleteI love your silhouette mini!
ReplyDeleteWith a charm pack, I'd make my daughter (a Nancy Drew fan) a quilted pillow.
Thanks!
Since I didn't read the books, my favourite Nancy Drew memory is watching my eldest daughter devour them and collect them. She is now a mother and I have all her books upstairs - waiting for the next generation of sleuths. Thank you for the chance to win some Nancy Drew fabric. I would love to make my daughter something out of them.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Nancy Drew. I always liked her friend George. I read all the books I could find from the library. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI loved Nancy Drew as a kid - I wish I went to school with you, I totally would have joined your sleuth club! I unfortunately don't have my collection any more - and I had all of them - when I was in University I was so broke I had to sell them on eBay to make rent :( breaks my heart, especially now that I have a little girl.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd make a little lap quilt for my girl for the family room for her to snuggle up with at night!
Thanks for offering up a giveaway of these beautiful fabrics Lisa! Very generous of you :)
I am a new follower.Love your bag.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower (gladly!) Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love your bag!
ReplyDeleteI love your little mini quilt so cute and wonderful bag too. I can't think of ant specific memory but I do know that I read all of her books when I was a child and loved them.
ReplyDeleteYour mini quilt and the book bag are so sweet. What clever ideas to make. I have no memories of Nancy Drew. I grew up among the Amish and never heard of her till I was older. So unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to read one of her books. Maybe some day.
ReplyDeleteReading was never much my bag, and isn't so much today either, but I do remember reading Nancy Drew books as a kid for hours on end. Love how you hacked your D-rings... A girl after me own heart! hahahaha
ReplyDeleteI was never a Nancy fan...or detective anything. I was to busy in the kitchen and at my sewing machine! But my brother read the Hardy Boys and collected all their series and I was in a way jealous. I loved to read, but just didn't like the theme, but would have loved to have a collection of a certain kind of book. Just never found a series I liked enough. But...I have a grand daughter...since age 6 she has been into being a "detective" and we have played the games and I even made 'secret agent sandwiches"...I cut the bread and meat with a small cookie cutter and she ate these little sandwiches as she thought secret agent meant small things too! But at age 12 she is into reading such things like a series of books so this might be my chance! I'd love for her to have soemthing from the "past". Things like Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys don't exist anymore..sorry Vampire Diaries just dont' cut it! I'd make her a book cover and a a mug rug and a journal cover..she loves to write her own stories! This would be great, thanks for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteVery nice pieces - both of them. I love the book bag and the idea of using the D rings. blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteGreat projects! My grandma gave the books when I was little but I did not catch on to them untill I was older and had given them all to my sister. I really enjoyed reading them. I should make her something with the fabric I have...
ReplyDeleteI have a teen daughter that loves mysteries and I'd make her a quilt with this charm pack. thanks for the chance to win
ReplyDeleteABreading4fun [at] gmail [dot] com
I remember reading the Nancy Drew books along with Trixie Beldon, Cherry Aimes, and the Bobbsey Twins. I was one of those kids who always had a book in my hands...oh, who am I kidding? I'm still that person! Thanks for hosting...your projects look great! pbstrand@msn.com
ReplyDeleteOh, and I'm a new follower...I'm eager to try your bag pattern! pbstrand@msn.com
ReplyDeleteI love all the bags everyone is making. Great pattern.
ReplyDeletethe silhouette block is perfect for Nancy Drew and the book bag too. A great way to use the fabric and tote around her novels as well.
ReplyDeletethanks for the link for the tote I'll have to try that one. and thanks you for hosting a give away as well.
in stitches
Looooove your Book Bag!!! Awesome!!! I was soooo addicted to Nancy Drew when I was in school!!! Read & reread the books so many times!!! lol I remember lovin' Trixie Belden too...been looong ago! :)
ReplyDeleteI'd make somethin' for my sewin' room with my win! Love Nancy! :)
I'd like to make a bag like yours! I've never made a schlep bag before!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower!
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa, I'm a new follower and read all the ND books too many years ago to count nor remember. I don't recall having a favorite but it did turn me on to reading and mysteries, so ND was pivotal in my life in that respect. I would love to win some fabric and make that great bag (thanks for the reference). The quilt stores in my area don't seem to be carrying the ND fabric-they look at me like I'm crazy when I mention it-I guess they don't remember ND. From CA, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe bag is really nice. Love it
ReplyDeleteAs child I already lovvvvved to read. Much like then I was anxious for this blog-hop to begin, back then I had to wait for new books at the library...always worth the wait! The book bag is perfect! TIA! B-)
ReplyDeleteFollower B-)
ReplyDeleteI remember watch Nancy Drew with the Hardy Boys shows on t.v., never really read the books. Your mini quilt is most lovely and also your bag. I would like to make a quilt with the fabric.
ReplyDeleteI am a follower.
ReplyDeleteI remember.being so scared reading one that I quit reading and left Nancy held captive for months before I got brave enough to finish.
ReplyDeleteI love your bag!! The mini quilt is quite nice as well. I love this fabric but didn't want to cut it!
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Gmama Jane
oops, Blog Hop Rule: Turn OFF word ID!! Poor eyesight makes it hard to read.
Cute Schlep bag! I have to confess, I love to read but I followed and loved Trixie Beldon books as a young reader. I guess I'll have to put ND on my list during my book club's break this summer. Thanks for the chance. Jane
ReplyDeleteI forgot to add, congrats on your first giveaway! They can be addictive! Jane
ReplyDeleteLove your projects, I remember Nancy Drew books are what really got me started reading, and I still love a good mystery today. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteLove both of your projects but I really love that bag!!!! I just might have to try my hand at that! Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent.
ReplyDeleteLove the bag and the quilt. I didn't ready Nancy Drew but vaguely remember her on TV. I would love the fabric to make a 'Nancy Drew' lap quilt for a friend of mine who is a voracious reader. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy happiest memories are of running down to Rikes ( now called Macys ) and buying the newest Nancy Drew book with my allowance. Your little quilt is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely in love with the silhouette mini quilt design! Just fabulous :)
ReplyDeleteJenn:)
I wanted to add that I loved reading all the Nancy Drew moments from the comments people have left, how fun!
ReplyDeleteJenn:)

ReplyDeleteI'm a lucky new follower.
ReplyDeleteLove all your projects. The silouette is great. I loved all the ND books, don't have a favorite.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
I am a new GFC follower.
ReplyDeleteI really like to 'follow by email' so I don't miss a post. Let me know if you add that feature.
I'm a new follower.
ReplyDeleteI loved your bag. I made a notebook cover for the hop, but I think it would be fun to make a quilt--fun to wrap up and read new mysteries. I read ND as a child, and have fond memories of curling up on my bed with a ND book or of reading one of her mysteries in my favorite reading tree.
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower of your blog on Google Reader. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win the charm pack. My sister was a Nancy Drew fan, and I could make her a coin purse (a la Madam Samm) out of the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I read the books as a girl, but my favorite memory is playing the video game on the computer with my kids.
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike! Check out what I made for the blog hop... :-) Love the bag!
ReplyDeleteI can clearly remember reading the Nancy Drew series with my girlfriends. We were always sharing the book we had just read with each other... it was great! Probably the first series that I read and boy was I hooked!!
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower - nice to find another Canadian blogger!! I love your bag project! Thanks for sharing in the hop!!
ReplyDeleteYour bag is adorable! Love the D ring!
ReplyDeleteI used to check these books out at the library. I loved them!
I'm a new follower, too!
ReplyDeletethis fabric is so much fun! Well, I've been collecting Nancy Drew for my granddaughters (and, of course, I read them again before I send them off--still enjoy them 50 years after reading them the first time!) My mom was a librarian when I was in grade school and she encouraged me to ready all the Nancy Drew books (along with all the Oz books!) so reading them now is a lovely memory of reading them with her.
ReplyDeleteThe series was a favorite as a child.
ReplyDeleteI'm your 58th follower! I'm not sure what I would make :\
ReplyDeleteFunny, I don't remember ever reading Nancy Drew...I was into the Hardy Boys, especially when Shawn Cassidy starred in the tv show! My daughter is really into Sherlock Holmes, and now that she is peeking at this blog hop with me, she is interested in reading some Nancy Drew. I think it would be great fun to make a pillow with charm squares!
ReplyDeleteI loved Nancy Drew growing up. I had an obession to collect them all! Thanks for the lovely giveaway!

Love the "D" ring additions. Fun ideas.
ReplyDeleteI really loved your bag and I got the pattern to make one. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI can't pick a favorite Nancy memory, I loved all the books! It is so much fun to revisit those years.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading the Nancy Drew books when I was young. My friends and I would pass our books back and forth to each other so we could read more. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading Nancy Drew books. I would read one a night using a flashlight so my mom didn't know I was awake. I could not get enough.
ReplyDeleteI still have my Nancy Drew books too! I used to regularly search sidewalks and our house for loose change my parents left lying around (it was ok with them :)) and as soon as I got 99 cents, I would go buy another Nancy Drew book. Often I paid in mostly pennies. I love your ideas for using the fabric. I think I would make a pillow. Thanks for your generosity!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower. Thanks for an inspiring blog!
ReplyDeleteGreat projects. The handle on your bag is fantastic - you used the fabric perfectly. I like that D-ring application. I'm in the process of making a Weekender bag -mostly following the instructions but the next time (How crazy am I?) I want to do it in a patchwork process that others have done and this ND fabric would work out famously.
ReplyDeleteThe very first time I read the very first Nancy Drew book is like it was yesterday!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower and I loved your projects!
ReplyDeleteLovely projects. I have a suspicion that many of us will be making book related projects! :)
ReplyDeleteWow!! I love the bag you made, absolutely amazing! I also love the silhouette mini! Great job :)
ReplyDeleteI read a few of the Nancy Drew books. I did enjoy them. Love your bag! Thanks for
ReplyDeletesharing. I would use the fabrics to make something for one of my best friends...she is always reading. Thanks for the chance to win!

ReplyDeleteNancy Drew was part of my Christmas one year. I was limited to one book a day so as to stretch the books to last through the rest of the Christmas holiday until I returned to school. Even at that young age I enjoyed spending a snowy Christmas in the house reading. Your son might be interested in the Hardy Boys series. My brothers had those books and I enjoyed reading them, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you for participating. I like your small quilt. It's very creative and I adore your book bag. I've never used D rings, but now I really want to after seeing your project. Thanks for all the inspiration.
I'm a follower now. Thank you for being very generous in your giveaway. Again, thanks for participating. I looked at some of your older posts and want to come back often. It's very interesting.
ReplyDeleteall beautiful! thank's for the chance to win. Have to confess... didn't read a book of nancy drew so no memory to share. i get on the hoop because i fall in love with the back liner book fabric and was searching book fabric to make a librairy tote bag for ma family!
ReplyDeleteenjoy the blog hop
Love the bag and the d rings. great idea to recycle. Thanks for sharing and for the opportunity on a wonderful draw.
ReplyDeletebonnielarson58@gmail.com
Love the items you made. My favorite memory was going to the library constantly and getting more Nancy Drew books to read. I must have made it look interesting as my 9 year younger sister did the same thing when she got to my age!
ReplyDeleteLove your projects...I did something similar with the silhouette for my project...it just sings Nancy Drew to me!
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to actually owned the Nancy Drew books as you did --lucky you--but had to get them from the local library. I did the Cherry Ames books too.
ReplyDeleteI love your tote and appreciate the link to the schlep bag. The d- rings to make it adjustable are perfect. So I guess since my memory is not all it should be lately I would say, make a tote should I be lucky enough to win your giveaway.
New follower too!
ReplyDeleteI love the bag but I have only heard of Nancy Drew, so I'm off to find a book, might be tricky, in the U.K.
ReplyDeleteI have just become a follower.
ReplyDeleteI've been planning on making a purse with the Nancy Drew fabric... love yours... especially the strap!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am now a follower, and I'm crossing my fingers :-)
I keep seeing book bags for my grand daughters as I hop along today. So that is what I would use the charm squares for if I should win! I love the bag you made!
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower!
ReplyDeleteNancy is the best! I read a lot of them as a girl and still have most of the books in a box. I loved trying to figure out who the culprit was before Nancy figured it out.
ReplyDeleteI love your clever projects, and what a great use for your leftovers!
ReplyDeleteI would make a tote with those charms, your bag was great. My favorite memory of Nancy Drew books was waiting until I had a long stretch of time so I could read several chapters at a time. It was a real treat to get one of those books for a birthday present.
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower.
ReplyDeleteLisa. Your Nancy Drew silhouette applique is wonderful! What a great idea to make mini quilts. I love that! I don't need to be entered in your giveaway since I still have my own bundles of 5" charms left; so find a deserving blogger who doesn't have any and make her happy. I sure enjoyed seeing your projects today!
ReplyDeleteI, like you devoured all the titles of Nancy Drew I could get ahold of at the local library. When I had exhausted all of their collection, I scrapped by pennies together, hit garage sales, used book stores and the like to attempt to read all of the books. The part I like best was that my Dad actually started reading them, and then HE would purchase others for my (our) collection!
ReplyDeleteI really don't remember reading Nancy Drew. I remember reading the Trixie Belden books and really enjoyed them. I couldn't wait until I could get another one to read.
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower. Love these blog hops. They help me find so many good sites.
ReplyDeleteFavorite ND memory - my DD reading them! Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory is climbing a tree in my front yard and reading these mysteries.
ReplyDeleteWonderful bag! I didn't read Nancy Drew growing up. I was more into Sherlock Holmes.
ReplyDeleteThere were so many Nancy Drew books I couldn't possible pick a favorite! I wish I still had my collection! I really need some of this fabric! I spotted it before it was available and wanted it then! I think I would make a Kindle cover. And I love the bags that are being made too! PS Maybe your son would like The Bobbsey Twins too!
ReplyDeleteI" follow on gfc as stephanie hastie
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Namcy Drew memory is reading, and the mystery was during the winter. In real like it was mid summer. I finished the book, and had been so involved in it, I was surprised to find myself in a summer day.
ReplyDeleteI didn't really get into Nancy Drew as a kid, but I've enjoyed some of them as an adult. :-) I enjoy reading some vintage "teens' books" as brain relaxers. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the purse. It's so cute!
ReplyDelete
